About
Julie Stanton, MS, LMFT, JD
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in New York, New Jersey and Florida as well as a certified grief counseling specialist and life coach. Before obtaining a master's degree, I worked extensively as an attorney and jurist in the New York City family courts with individuals, couples and families experiencing relationship conflicts. I eventually realized that I could better serve those who were actively seeking change for themselves and in their relationships.
I consider the therapeutic relationship to be one of the most important relationships that we create. I believe that all individuals can effect change in their lives, and that my role as therapist or coach is to empower my clients to lead more fulfilling and happier lives. Through a collaborative relationship, I help my clients envision the lives they want to lead and reach their goals in a safe, compassionate and supportive environment. Recognizing that one-size-does-not-fit-all and that each client has unique needs, strengths and resources, I use a variety of therapeutic or coaching techniques. As part of the process, I actively encourage my clients to find and listen to their own inner voices to guide them, which empowers them to construct their own identities and personal narratives.
Writer Andy Rooney once said: “Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.” My goal as your therapist/coach isn’t to tell you how to get to the top of the mountain but to guide you on the journey there.
In my free time, I am an avid reader. I also love hiking and cycling and find peace in the beauty of nature. I travel whenever I can and, as an amateur photographer, my camera is always close at hand.
